Kobayr Monastery

Kobayr

Kobayr monastery is located in the Lori district, on Debit valley. It was one of the most important seats of the written language and cultural centers of Armenia. In the 13-th century, Zakaryans became the rulers of the monastery, instead of Kyurikians and it became to a chalcedon church, turning into a priory. The monastery consists of 2 churches. The oldest one called Mariamashen, as it was built by the daughter of king Kyurike The Second and the other one, which is dilapidated and bigger, was built in the beginning of the 13-th century.
