Neighboring Countries of Armenia

Neighboring Countries of Armenia

Armenia has an ancient history which comes from the centuries.

All along the time borders of Armenia were expanding or were shrinking, neighbouring countries were changing as well. Here are some questions concerning the geographical position of Armenia.

What countries border Armenia?

Now the Republic of Armenia constitutes only one-tenth of historical Armenia and borders with

  • Turkey to the West,
  • Georgia to the North,
  • The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan to the East,
  • Iran and Azerbaijan exclave of Nakhichevan to the South.

Nagorno Karabakh conflict

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is because of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts, which are de facto controlled by the self-declared Republic of Artsakh, but generally, Astsakh is a part of Armenia. The origin of the conflict started in the early 20th and is still unsolved.

Armenia Turkey conflict

Armenia Turkey relations have a historical conflict since 1915 when Armenians were massacred by the Turkish government. It has been a whole century but the Turkish government still can not accept their fault, so the Armenian and Turkish conflict exists.

Very few of those countries have so deep roots as Armenia and was in the turmoil of the ancient history.
