Bread in Armenia is a holy food, so Armenians worship all kinds of bread. Once they see bread on the ground they take it and put it in a high and clean place. In Christianity, bread is considered to be the body of Jesus Christ that’s why Armenians worship bread.

How to make Armenian Bread

The first thing that you should consider to put into the process of bread preparation is your love. The ingredients needed in the process of bread making are easy to find and cheap to buy. For making a simple type of bread you will need wheat flour, water, salt, sugar.

Armenian Bread Recipe

Lavash Recipe

  • 14 1/2 ounces of flour

  • 2 1/2 cups plus extra for rolling

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

  • 2/3 cup water

  • 1 egg

  • 5 tablespoons of butter

Mix ingredients and let the dough rest for 30m. Roll the dough 1/8-inch thick. Bake it for 10 to 15 minutes.

Matnakash Recipe

  • 1½ cups of warm water

  • 1½ tsp of salt

  • 3½ of flour

  • Oil

  • 1 egg white

  • 1 egg to pour on the bread dough

Mix all the ingredients and make a dough, then form it circle and make some lines with hands. Bake for bake 15-20 minutes in the oven.
