We invite you on an exciting adventure in the Biblical land of Armenia. Here the legendary Noah descended from the top of Mount Ararat after the worldwide flood, planted the first vineyard, and made the first drop of wines, and the rest is history.
Armenia is a country with a long tradition of producing various types of alcohol.
Archeological excavations near village Areni have found the remains of the wine industry stretching back 6000 years. Famous Armenian cognac was the favorite beverage of Winston Churchill. In many houses the locals make pure and strong homemade vodka called Aragh, from variety of fruits. Special culture of alcohol use that includes a delicious meal at a colorful table, traditional toasts and warm atmosphere, where every guest is accepted as a native, complements this experience and turns it into a real feast.
We will visit the colorful wine festival in Areni village, will visit different wineries and will get acquainted with the excellent Armenian cuisine. And of course will visit the most beautiful cozy corners of Armenia and will get acquainted with authentic culture, tastes and smells of this Sunny country
Arrival at the Airport, transfer to the hotel
After breakfast at the hotel we will drive to Kotayk region. Before we get to Garni village we will take off-road way through the Canyon of Garni, stretching along the rivers Azat and Goght. We will continue our trip through the Canyon, enjoying magnificent, seemingly artificial slopes from the foot to the top of the gorge named "Symphony of Stones". Climbing up from the canyon to the village, we will take our way to Garni Temple, built in the second half of the 1st century A.D. and dedicated to the God Mitra, the God of the Sun. After the excursion in the temple we will return to Yerevan and will visit Enoteca restaurant. Here we will have a lunch, will taste local wines and will meet Avag Arutunyan, an experienced winemaker and wine connoisseur, Chairman of the Association of Armenian winemakers. After the lunch we will have a little rest and in the evening we will have a delicious dinner with master class by one of the famous chefs of Armenia Sedrak Mamulyan, who specializes in studying and reviving of ancient Armenian cuisine and its adaptation to modern times. The restaurant is located in the Megeryan carpet factory manufacturing handmade rugs and carpets. Here we will have an excursion in the museum of rugs and carpets. Overnight in Yerevan
After breakfast at the hotel we will head to village Areni located in the heart of Vayots Dzor region, which is famous as a center of Armenian winemaking. October in Armenia is a period of grape collecting and winemaking. The holidays dedicated to this are held throughout the country, and Areni wine festival is the largest and the most favorite among all. Aside from the impressive demonstration of Armenian alcohol industry, one can taste dishes of Armenian cuisine, to see the show of musicians and dancers, to take part in master classes and many other things. Before visiting the festival we will visit Noravank monastery, the pearl of Armenian medieval architecture. We will also visit the excavations in the Areni 1 cave or Birds cave, where in 2010 the archeologists found the remains of the wine industry stretching back 6000 years. In the evening we will continue our way to Goris. Here we will have a delicious dinner and vodka tasting. Overnight in Goris
After breakfast at the hotel we will take our way to Tatev Monastery Complex built in 895-906, which was one of the most important Education and Religion Centers situated in medieval Syunik region. Tatev is also famous for its unique architecture. On the way we will take Tatev Wings ropeway, which is the longest two-way ropeway of the world. Leaving the monastery we will visit one of the adjacent villages for a lunch in a local’s house and get acquainted with vodka making. After the lunch we will drive to mountainous resort town Jermuk located at the altitude of 2080m above sea level. Jermuk is famous for its fresh air and richness of mineral springs. Overnight in Jermuk.
After breakfast at the hotel we will have a short walk in Jermuk, where we will taste mineral water in Jermuk Gallery, then will drive towards lake Sevan located at an altitude of 1900m above sea level, which is the largest lake in Caucasus as well as one of the largest, and highest freshwater lakes of the world. Following the historical Silk Road we will climb up over 2,410m and make a stop at the place to see the medieval Caravanserai built in the XIV century by Prince Orbelyan. Continuing our way through Vardenyants Pass we will continue our way towards Sevan Peninsula to visit Sevanavank monastery built in 874 A.C. by the daughter of King Ashot Bagratuni – Mariam. During the 9th century the Monastery became the royal citadel of the Armenian Kings. After excursion in Peninsula, we will drive to Dilijan – spa town, one of the most popular Armenian, situated within the Dilijan National Park. Overnight in Dilijan.
After breakfast at the hotel we will head to the highest mountain of Armenia - Aragats (4090 m) to visit Amberd Fortress, a midcentury fort-city located on the wings of the mountain at the altitude of 2300 m and built in the 10th century. In clean weather, from here you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Ararat valley and mount Ararat. After visiting the fortress we will host at winemaker Arthurs’ in Byurakan village. He makes wines from the grape, pomegranate and excellent fruit vodka. After the lunch and alcohol tasting we will return to Yerevan and after a little rest we will visit one of the favorite wine bars of the locals In Vino. After we will have a nice dinner with music in one of the restaurants. Overnight in Yerevan.
After breakfast at the hotel we will take our way to Arsgatsotn region, center of winemaking of this region. We will visit and for a tour in one of the oldest wineries. After the tour we will have a delicious lunch in a local’s house in Parpi village, where we can taste homemade vodka. After returning back to Yerevan a little rest we will visit one of the most unusual places of nightlife of Yerevan- Kond House. Here we will see the local distillery “lab”, will try its products and will have a dinner in the enchanting atmosphere of the colorful Armenian feast.
After breakfast at the hotel we will make a city tour. We will visit the Memorial of victims of Armenian Genocide in 1915. Leaving the memorial we will have a walk in downtown. We will see Cascade complex, The Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Northern Avenue and Republic Square. Then we will have a lunch in the restaurant. After the lunch we will visit souvenir market called Venissage, grocery market and the other markets. According to the time transfer to the Airport.
